The Women’s Life Centre is founded on the core belief of the dignity, beauty and the unique gift of women and the precious individuality of each person. Below we have answered some of the most frequently asked questions about this work.
Are you a pro-life organisation?
We offer care to women experiencing an unexpected pregnancy. We respect that each woman will make her own decision regarding her pregnancy and we provide information, education, emotional and material support irrespective of whether she continues her pregnancy or not.
The WLC believes in supporting women to make life-affirming decisions for both herself and her unborn child. If a woman chooses to have an abortion we offer her the opportunity to return and access any support or help she may need.
Does the WLC provide or refer for abortion?
The WLC does not provide or refer for abortions. Our centre informs women about abortion including information such as; abortion types and procedures as well as possible physical and psychological effects of abortion.
Is the WLC a ‘front’ for the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants?
The WLC is not a ‘front’ for the Helpers and are two distinct groups.
We accept referrals from the Helpers as well as any community group, medical practitioners or individuals.
The Helpers and other groups and individuals may give our WLC business cards to allow women and men the opportunity to access our assistance if they choose to.
Is the WLC ‘judgmental’ of those who are considering having an abortion or condemn those who have had abortions?
The WLC offers unconditional support and non-judgemental care for a women both before and after an abortion.
Our centre has particular counselling directed to post-abortive healing. This recognises that some women may experience trauma or distress following an abortion.
WLC refers women to the ‘Hope Alive’ program which is delivered by trained counsellors (supported by medical practitioners) which addresses emotional distress and trauma related to abuse, childhood neglect, abortion, miscarriage and stillbirth.
What is your organisation status?
The Women’s Life Centre (WLC) is a registered, incorporated association. We work with other groups including charities and churches and with many individuals who assist and support us in the work we do.
Are you Church-funded?
The WLC is supported by generous donations from a range of donors, including local businesses, members of the public and churches (including non-Catholic churches).
Is Esencia Café directly supporting the Women’s Life Centre?
Esencia Café is a fundraising arm of our organisation. The café, along with our other fundraising merchandise, boast signage and branding that clearly states that any funds raised go directly to support the Women’s Life Centre.
